Obtaining Work / Life Balance!

Many people are too busy making a living that they don’t have the time to make a life. Many of us work too much and it is hard to find the time for the after-hours activities we enjoy. At today's meeting, members learned tips in getting a little bit closer to the work / life balance that you deserve.

1.     Get Organized.
2.     Get A Hobby
3.     Learn to Say No / just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to
4.     Institute a digital free zone
5.     Exercise / Nurture Yourself
6.     Be selective in your errands
7.     Limit Internet Time
8.     Plan Your Week / Prioritize / Manage your time
9.     Work when you can’t see others
10.   Only work in your Office
11.   Don’t feel guilty
12.   Accomplish non-work goals
13.   Do something for others
14.   Assess your activities and purge the extras

Achieving a work / life balance is an incremental process. Remember, those who have work/life balance don’t ALWAYS have a "10" in work/life balance; techniques that may work for one, may not wok for another. It is a journey of self exploration, so take the first step in assessing yourself, and start moving closer to the work / life balance that you deserve.

Start your self assessment today!

IMPROVE YOURSELF TO IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS

Many business owners are concerned about their company’s status and fail to realize the things they can do personally to improve their company. At a recent meeting of the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce, Leads Group II; Barry Kolanowski of The Compass Group educated members on how they could immediately begin to rethink their objectives and satisfy their client needs as well as their own.

Barry’s presentation on “Five Things You Should Know in Business & Why,” gave insight into different areas individuals can improve to make themselves more successful in their industry. According to Barry, one of the best ways to achieve goals is to focus on the short term. Planning for the near future allows you to revise goals as needed, especially if you are new to your industry or are forming a new revenue stream.

Another way to improve your personal and professional lives is to have a team of people that you rely on for certain values. Do you have someone that will tell you the truth, unconditionally; not just what you want to hear, that you value in your life?

If you would like additional information regarding personal and professional relationships and ways to maximize them while navigating challenging times and market trends, contact Barry Kolanowski at barry@thecompassgroup.org. Barry is a Motivational Speaker and Certified Life Coach who has conducted numerous speeches to many groups on a variety of topics.

Task Force Cleaning is expanding - and told us all about it!

Mike Prendeville, of Task Force Cleaning, gave the Leads Group II an update on his business. In addition to what one would expect, such as commercial and residential cleaning, Mike has expanded into several areas. He now has a 3-person crew to take care of residential jobs, which makes for a very efficient and thorough cleaning. He can custom-design the cleaning priorities to fit the needs of the budget, and the desires of the customer. A custom-designed program can even include green products.

In addtion, Mike is going to be purchasing a van to house a mobile carpet cleaning system. His current system is designed for commercial use, or residences that are empty. The new equipment will be more flexible and maneuverable.

As a reminder, he told the group that he can provide deck power-washing and staining, and floor stripping and waxing.

Mike also described an aspect of his business that appeals to landlords and other property managers. He can provide cleaning services for move-ins, move-outs and other cleaning issues.

Thanks, Mike, for a great talk! We will all be thinking of you and bring you new leads!

Jeanie Martin visits the group.... fire up!

We were "WOW'd by Jeanie Martin at our meeting Wednesday. She talked to the entrepreneurs in the group and pointed out ways that we could re-think our ability to be self-led.
First, Jeanie asked, 'what are you doing to improve yourself?' and second 'how are you being challenged as a leader?" Sound like simple questions, but taken to heart, can be a couple of powerful aids. Jeanie reminded us to surround ourselves with positive people, the five most influential people we hang out with should be those who are most likely to help us moe forward.
Second, Jeanie asked, are you challenged? Of course we all are, but are we "underchallenged", "adequately-challenged", or "dangerously over-challenged"? Making the best use of the time we have, to reach our potential while reducing the 'frustration gap' is a goal, Jeanie pointed out, worth working toward.
Finally, Jeanie gave us five areas of self-leadership to work on. Our habits, health, relationships, time and money are the areas that can increase or reduce the value of ourselves. Thinking of ourselves as a crucial commodity, being motivated by either pain or pleasure, we can all work on using the potential we have been given and using it to our fullest! Thanks, Jeanie, we were fortunate to have you today!

Let's fine-tune our business acumen!

Yesterday's Leads Group II meeting included a great 'fine-tuning' activity. The group split into two segments, and each group discussed their invidivual opinions and experiences with their competition. Specifically, we opened up to each other with information about our biggest competitors and what they can do that we can't. It's an eye-opener and a great time to sit down away from your busy day to look more closely at your own business.
We're ready to grow again... if this blog interests you, send it to someone you know wants to grow their business in the Yorkville area.

Member Profile - Yorkville Auto Body

Stephanie Roskopf and Glen Skoff from Yorkville Auto Body today gave a presentation to the Yorkville Area Chamber of Comerce Leads Group II. Stephanie is the manager of the shop, while Glen is the owner.

They spoke about the intricacies and behind-the-scenes activites of their successful body shop.

Besides what one would expect, like body repair services, painting and insurance work, Yorkville Auto Body also offers some refreshingly different and very-much-needed services.

For example, they pointed out that their free 'used car' inspection can save you money and headaches. Just bring the car you are considering purchasing and let them give it a once-over. Another of their services, noted Colanne Schwemlein of Colanne's Tax and Accounting Service, is 'they even work on semi's". And, taking advantage of their large facility, Yorkville Auto Body can assist non-profits. Jane Tune of Quik Kill noted, "they use their business as a springboard to assist non-profits, like D.A.R.E., the F.F.A., Lions, and others". Clay Kannaka from Allied First Bank was also impressed. He state that he learned a lot about 'the high quality paint and great warranty'. Keri Gaul of the Ripple Effect had something to add as well. "I didn't realize," said Keri, "they did oil changes and brakes, and (I) didn't know about their community involvement"> Many of the leads group members were interested to find out, as Sara Fontanez, owner of Fontanez Photography pointed out, that "drug- and explosion-trained K-9 units are trained on site for several counties".

Thanks, Stephanie and Glen, for a great presentation and a delicious lunch!
